Finding Hit-and-Run Drivers

As personal injury lawyers in Los Angeles, auto accidents and hit-and-run incidents are obviously a major concern for all of us at the Law Offices of Burg and Brock. Now, we're witnessing a disturbing local trend.

If you've ever found yourself at fault in an accident, you might understand the impulse to flee from your responsibility. At the same time, most us know quite well how morally wrong this is, particularly if there may be an injury from the accident. We should also know that it's a felony, and a far more serious if an injury or death is involved. The large majority of us do the right thing, remain at the scene, and do what's appropriate in terms of ensuring that injured parties receive medical attention as soon as possible.

According to a piece running on the MyFoxLA website, however, a fatality hit-and-run earlier today in Hollywood is part of a growing number of incidents of motorists fleeing the scene of accidents. The problem is apparently getting so bad that their may be a move afoot in Los Angeles to actually provide a standing reward to bystanders who can provide information leading to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver.

Whatever you think of this particular tactic, the goal of arresting more of these irresponsible individuals is simply common sense. If people realize that fleeing the scene of an accident will only increase their liability and might well result in jail time and years of probation as well, their might be fewer such cases. Of course, it also makes things much easier for a victim to collect their due compensation when the at-fault party is known. Even with the help of a top personal injury law firm, if we can't identify a driver, it becomes a matter of determining whether the insurance company is liable to pay under the defined set of circumstances. It's not easy but often possible for really outstanding lawyers to ensure that a victim's financial life is salvaged after such a  misfortune, but it's obviously easier when the at-fault party is known and, hopefully, insured. All in all, the fewer hits-and-runs, the better; the more hit-and-run perpetrators who are identified and arrested, also the better.

If you need the help of an outstanding personal injury attorney following an automobile or other type of accident, including a top spinal cord injury lawyer, please call the Law Offices of Burg & Brock at 1-888-509-2998 today.
