The Wrong Place at the Wrong Time

The incident earlier this week when Eric Garcetti's car hit a pedestrian is obviously no golden moment for the new L.A. mayor's tenure. Yes, it wasn't the mayor who was driving; yes, early reports indicated the woman was walking against the light; and, yes, the injuries are reportedly fairly minor. At the same time, there usually is an element of fault whenever a car strikes a pedestrian, even when the pedestrian is clearly breaking traffic laws. As personal injury attorneys in Los Angeles, it's a fact we're keenly aware of.

While it's very fortunate that the skills of a top spinal cord injury lawyer won't be needed in this case, that doesn't mean that a lawsuit against the city won't be happening. Very often in cases of a pedestrian being hit while jaywalking, you get into the area of comparative negligence. That means that a court might determine that a pedestrian who places him or herself in danger by breaking the traffic laws might be partially responsible for the injury, but so is the driver who should have been able to slow down in time to prevent the accident. It's obviously never a simple situation, but it's just one of the times when the skill of a truly intelligent personal injury attorney is needed.

If you find yourselves embroiled in a tough legal situation, there's a reason that the Law Offices of Burg and Brock is the place for an attorney Los Angeles turns to first. We look forward to hearing from you at 888-509-2998.

Something To Think About This Christmas

Christmas Eve is just a day away, and while countless families around the world will be gathered together to enjoy the holiday, Nailah Winkfield will continue fighting for the life of her beloved teenage daughter, Jahi McMath.

Jahi, a 13-year-old from Oakland, went into cardiac arrest after losing a great deal of blood from a botched tonsillectomy at Children's Hospital.

Jahi has been presumed brain dead by a team of physicians, and the hospital has been trying to remove her ventilator. But Jahi's family is fighting to keep her alive and demanding the hospital get a second opinion from another neurologist.

David Durand, the chief of pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Oakland, said in a statement over the weekend that Jahi's procedure produced a "catastrophic outcome." At the Law Offices of Burg & Brock, we agree. This wrongful death tragedy perfectly encapsulates what motivates our staff of personal injury attorneys in Los Angeles to do what we do, day in and day out.

Cameron Brock, founder of the Law Offices of Burg & Brock, is a leading spinal cord injury lawyer with a strong record of success in wrongful death lawsuits similar to the one detailed above. If you are interested in arranging a free consultation with the attorney Los Angeles trusts in wrongful death lawsuits, call the Law Offices of Burg & Brock today at 888-509-2998.

As you gather around the dinner table with your families this Christmas, count the many blessings in your life and don't forget to keep Jahi and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Justice for Clifford

A settlement has been reached in the wrongful death lawsuit of Clifford Detty. A 46-year-old Southern California man, Detty died over three years ago while in custody at Santa Barbara's Psychiatric Health Facility after suffering an apparent psychotic episode. The details presented in the lawsuit suggest PHF did not follow standard protocol in the way they monitored Detty during his detainment. As a result, his father (the person who filed the wrongful death suit) has been awarded $1.25 million in damages before going to trial.

Our hearts break for the Detty family, and indeed for all wrongful death victims. Losing a loved one is painful enough on its own, but to lose them under such auspicious circumstances adds insult to injury. Cameron Brock, a spinal cord injury lawyer and the founder of the Law Offices of Burg & Brock, has defended the families of wrongful death victims since the firm first opened in 1994. The attorneys that work at our four Southern California locations are some of the finest personal injury attorneys in Los Angeles.

In his nearly two decades of legal experience, Cameron Brock has led the way in securing over $100 million in verdicts and settlements for our clients. If you are in search of a product liability lawyer, call our offices toll-free today at 888-509-2998 to arrange a complimentary consultation to review the details of your case.
