Think Ahead for Potential Liability if Planning a Big Event

Media photos of packed stadiums surfaced repeatedly in recent weeks, from the Pope's arrival at Rome's Olympic Stadium to seemingly daily shots of crowded soccer stadiums in Brazil as World Cup fever continues.

Certainly organizers of these large gatherings of people planned diligently for all emergency contingencies. Their attentiveness can be emulated to a smaller scale for local events.

As summer winds down, many organizations will plan for big upcoming events such as school assemblies or the multitude of other special events staged in the Los Angeles area each fall. Think about big high school football games, Octoberfest celebrations, or outdoor charity events.

Just because you don't expect 90,000 people, don't assume all is safe. The potential for personal injury always exists.

The unpredictable can occur when lots of people gather, from the simple slip-and-fall to fights, spills and (Heaven forbid) something on the property falling or breaking. Don't forget to consider premises liability.

Local event organizers are wise to ensure their gatherings are properly insured; and that the location is thoroughly inspected for potential problems.

Attendees play a part in the safety realm also. They should recognize that having fun should not totally eliminate common sense.

The Law Offices of Burg & Brock is devoted to the representation of injured people and their families on matters involving solely personal injury. We extend our best wishes for everyone to enjoy upcoming special events the rest of the year, safely!
