Cycle Strong (But Carefully)

As the weather warms up here in California and around the nation, personal injury lawyers like us are likely to see more sports-related accidents than the rest of the year. Perhaps not too surprisingly, considering the number of people who participate in the sport and the fact that it's often conducted in traffic, it's not too surprisingly that cycling is, at least in the sheer number of injuries and fatalities, the most dangerous of all sports.

On the hand, it's an outstanding form of exercise (not exercising at all is obviously also a very dangerous inactivity -- and is not good at all for your quality of life, for that matter), and one of our favorite ways of unwindattorney in Los Angeles.

Of course, as a vehicle accident lawyer, it's hard not be aware of the dangers. While we welcome clients who have been involved in bicycle accidents due to the fault of a driver or another party and have not been duly compensated, on the whole it would be nice if there were less of them. So, a few safety and legal reminders for your fit and happy cyclists to help you stay that way. This is a very partial list, so feel free to Google around for more safety tips.

1. First and foremost...always wear a helmet. Can you think of a more important part of your body than your head? Protect it.

2. Remember that you are responsible for obeying all the rules of the road, just like drivers.

3. We love music as much as anyone -- we like the news and podcasts too, for that matter. Nevertheless, listening to them does not mix well with bicycling. It's important to hear the other vehicles, right?

4. Never assume a driver sees you until you make eye contact with him or her. Until a driver acknowledges that there's a vulnerable human being at risk, you must assume they don't see you and act accordingly. Even if you're technically in the right, and we might be happy to take your case, you're definitely much, much better off not getting injured in the first place! Trust us on that one.
